The Business School at University of South Australia has been working with the Raw Talent team for 18 months, with our initial contact coming about following the recognition of a need for industry relevant expertise to be brought in to our curriculum. Academically, we present broad discipline expertise that is invaluable to students, however to maximise career outcomes, we wanted our students to gain access to the broader context of employability within industry. We recognised that we couldn’t offer the array of industry and sector experience that Raw Talent can bring to our students.
Raw Talent are a genuine partner; they worked with us to understand our needs and our goals, then tailored a bespoke program to enable us to achieve them. The program delivered offers our students the opportunity to apply their learning within an industry context. Having such an opportunity is invaluable for students; not only do they receive exposure to the professional environment, they gain excellent networking opportunities, and are thus enabled to clarify their career direction, goals and the value they can bring to prospective employers based on real-world experiences.
Raw Talent bring to us a level of supported experience and gravitas that not only reinforces the learnings we provide students but enhances them. Their understanding, experience, knowledge and industry connections are instrumental in our students’ success in the transition from education to employment.
The Engagement portfolio at Swinburne works to foster and expand opportunities for students, staff, industry and communities, across the breadth of the university. This includes industry partnerships (for research and learning purposes), alumni, government and community relations, driving a student-centred culture and delivering work integrated learning (WIL) experiences that ensure our graduates are ready for employment.
In preparing our students for employment, we recognise the diversity of our student cohort, and offer a range of options to ensure that all students at vocational, undergraduate and postgraduate levels gain the skills and experience they need for a successful employment future. Swinburne’s suite of Professional Masters degrees, which appeals particularly to international students, includes the Career Success Program.
The Career Success Program (CSP) was developed in partnership with Raw Talent in 2015 to provide bespoke, targeted employability skill development opportunities for master level students. The program enables students to access valuable opportunities to assimilate within industry environments and gain real world industry experience. We observe the students’ growth in confidence and enhanced ability to interact with industry, while they develop very important networks.
Our partnership with Raw Talent for the CSP has allowed Swinburne to fast-track new, diversified industry engagement and employability offerings for students. Their extensive and established industry networks, and the high regard in which Raw Talent is held by their industry partners, ensure not only the delivery of a high-quality program, but a strengthening of the industry engagement focus that guides Swinburne’s vision.
Raw Talent has become a highly valued collaborator with Swinburne, as we work together to drive and improve the transition from education to employment for our students.

We work with Raw Talent because Peter, Katea and their network of coaches and consultants bring specialist knowledge and vast experiences from a broad range of sectors. For the past two and a half years they’ve worked alongside us to create and continually deliver a state of the art career advancement program. Their approach has always been a collaborative one; working with us from initial ideation stages, through inception, to ongoing delivery and development. They bring their vision to develop a customised solution that meets our needs and progresses our students’ experiences. Raw Talent are our ‘go-to’ provider; bringing broad based, customised, highly skilled outcomes for our students and our program.
Raw Talent initially approached NHP to see if we would be interested in having a small group of students work with us for a semester. The students, in their final year of their Master of Professional Engineering and completing Raw Talent’s Career Success Program, would operate on site once a week and work to solve a workplace challenge, defined by us. As an organisation that is continually seeking new talent, we saw this as a great opportunity to expose our brand to up and coming engineers. As well as benefits from a talent perspective, the program gave us the opportunity, skilled resource, and enthusiasm to test our concepts and designs that we may not have otherwise had the capacity to do.
The workplace projects present incredible opportunities for students to put their theoretical training to the test in a corporate and/or lab environment; which is very different to the university environment they are used to. Not only do they gain exposure to the ‘real world’, they gain insight into what the day jobs of many different engineers are.
Our work with Raw Talent has been and continues to be invaluable for our business. We have even hired one of the students from the project team! This employee has gone on to become an integral part of our Product Marketing team; putting to work the skills and knowledge he had the opportunity to develop by combining his studies with the Career Success Program and his NHP project experience.
The Raw Talent Career Success Program events helped me to improve my communication and make industrial connections which were my main goals trying to adapt to the Australian work culture. Interaction with industrial personnel allowed me to understand the demands of the workforce in Australia and what steps I should take to be successful in starting my career.
My industry based project with NHP was the most useful aspect of my experience with the CSP, as it provided me with opportunities to grow my professional network and helped me learn what’s out there for me after I finished my masters.
I developed my team work ability through the group project work that the CSP offered us. I believe that my communication skills have improved significantly as well as I have made connections that will help me in some way along my career path. Working with NHP was definitely a remarkable experience.
I received high-quality support from Raw Talent through my University. I was lacking self-confidence and the team helped me with developing my ability to sell myself and my capabilities. They are lovely people, and I benefited from the impressive size of their network. At the end of my experience with Raw Talent, I secured employment with a company ranked globally as one of the Top Five best companies to work for.
I still cannot believe the placement that Raw Talent arranged for me. I was a little overwhelmed when meeting my industry supervisor because it was so amazing and all I could think of was to call my parents back in France as I was so delighted.
Since working onsite at L’Oreal they have been incredibly welcoming, and I was thrilled to be able to attend the Melbourne fashion week in order to check out one of L’Oreal’s partner’s activations.
